What exactly are Omega-3s? Omega-3’s are an unsaturated fatty acid. Unsaturated fats are the good fats (as opposed to trans fats and most saturated fats, which are bad). Unsaturated fats raise your HDL (good) cholesterol, which helps your clear the bad fats and LDL (bad) cholesterol from your body. This helps prevent those precious arteries from getting clogged up- that’s why our cholesterol ratio (HDL:LDL) is actually more important than total cholesterol.
Older individuals with higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids had over a 25% reduced risk of death and lived an average of 2.2 years longer than individuals with low levels of Omega-3s!

The largest benefit was at low levels, so that means that if you’re eating NO fish, start eating a LITTLE fish for a BIG benefit!! If you don’t like fish, find a good supplement high in the Omega-3s DHA & EPA.
Fish highest in the most beneficial Omega-3s (DHA & EPA): herring, mackerel, lake trout, wild salmon and albacore tuna.

The amazing superfood chia seed is an outstanding source of both omega-3 & omega-6, in the optimal 3:1 ratio. Chia seed contains the highest plant source of omega-3 on the planet
It’s sad that many Americans lack Omega 3…we have Fish oil in abundance in stores all over the place!!! It’s not that expensive, yet many get sodas, cakes, fast food, candy…really sad that Americans do not pay attention to what they eat. This is one of the reasons why we have A.D.D., ADHD, and all sorts of mental disorders every year. I just hope by then that more people be aware of their health
Thanks good info,and well said
We thank you for the informative post and for spreading the message of nutrition.
thanks for this informative post which can help a lot of people understand the importance of omega 3’s. In choosing my supplements, i choose very wisely so i can get the best for my health. Some supplements may contain unhealthy substances like preservatives & other artificial additives. I have discovered another source of omega 3s which is chia seed. There are also many types, but i chose the one with the highest level of omega 3s, all natural and 100% safe. good health to everyone! 🙂

very interesting thx

I am a skinny person. Can i know, does omega 3 helps to gain weight to the extent of a standard body size? It would be great if you know the definite answer =D
The balance of omega 3s and 6s in your diet is just as important as the total amount you get. Nearly ALL americans have an excess of omega 6s in their diet since vegetable/plant oils are all very high in omega 6s, so taking a supplement w/ omega 6s in it (even if there are still omega 3s) will not help bring your ratios back into balance properly. Taking a plain omega 3 supplement would give the best results. you can take flax oil or eat chia seeds which are vegan
Is it ok to take omega 3 if ur on pre menopausal period and oftenly have a high blood pressure ?
as much as modern medicine likes to deny it, food is medicine! True
good call
That would do me good at the moment, with gastritis, good advice.
